“I used to transport coke between Miami and Cuba back in the 80’s. Those were the happiest days of my life. I used to get $6,000 a kilo. I went through millions. But I had to stop because my heart couldn’t take the stress. I was constantly watching my back, and all my friends ended up getting busted or killed. One time we were switching boats about 50 miles off the coast, and a helicopter flew by. I almost had a heart attack. Now I just do hair and makeup for girls at the strip club.”

If hair braiding isn’t taught in beauty schools, why does the government force black women to go (and pay thousands) to get a cosmetology license? What’s worse is not doing so could result in a $10,000 fine and a year in prison. Since the 1990s, the Institute for Justice has been fighting for hair braiders — and a new legal showdown in Iowa could be their biggest yet.

The World Indigenous Games, which brought together 2,000 indigenous people from all over the world, will wrap up Sunday, Nov. 1, in Brazil. Competitors came from far-flung countries from the Philippines to Ethiopia, joining more than 300 Brazilian tribes and delegates from across South America. Events included river swimming, log races, archery, spear-throwing and tug of war. “This is an eye-opener for us,” said one of the Navajo delegates from the United States.

ps: in case u guys didn’t know, this is Jim Obergefell, the named plaintiff in the case that just made gay marriage LEGAL for EVERYBODY IN AMERICA. His husband and partner of 21 years, John Arthur, died of complications from ALS while they were fighting for their home state of Ohio to recognize the validity of their marriage (which took place in Maryland). The Obergefell case centers on Jim’s right to be recognized on his terminally-ill husband’s death certificate. That’s John in the photo. Jim is still carrying it on CNN right now.

Jim Bob Duggar’s minimization of his own daughters’ sexual assault is disgusting

Josh Duggar may have been one of 19 children, but he was his parents’ number-one concern. Jim Bob Duggar, patriarch of the famously fecund Duggar clan, has finally broken his silence on his eldest son’s repeated sexual assault of his own sisters. Looks like he’s sticking to the “five-second rule” among other disturbing justifications.

CBS’ exploitative new reality show pits struggling families against each other for $101K

On Wednesday, CBS aired the first episode of their new series The Briefcase. The show follows struggling American families who are suddenly given $101,000 and a choice: They can either keep the money or give some or all of it to another needy family. But CBS’s decision to literally profit off impoverished Americans is worse than just simple corporate greed.
